Our first order of the day was to
explore the cathedral. It really is quite remarkable, apart from the fact that
is the focal point of Burgos, its history is incredible. There are signs posted
that it will celebrate its 8 hundredth anniversary in 2020! Now wrap your head
around that! I question that because as I was prowling around, I read some plaque that said the original site was a gothic
temple in the 11th century but was considered to be too small so in
1221 they started to build the real thing! They finished in 1260, which is
pretty fast by any standards! There have been many additions since then of
course, the interior chapels to new saints. It is flamboyant, gothic, stunning,
with Renaissance and Baroque elements! It quite takes your breathe away. I have
never seen so much color incorporated into a cathedral. There are so many works
of art that it blows the mind! I am always aware of the number of people who
were employed in the building of such a building. The catholic church employed
a lot of people in this endeavor.
We have not explored a lot of
castles, churches, cathedrals this time around but Burgos made up for it!
Tomorrow is a bank holiday so I expect people will be out cruising tonight,
besides, it’s Halloween!

ul’s hand is still a bit
swollen and his tube of cream somehow exploded in his pocket! I wonder why?
There are 18 pockets on this photographer’s vest that he wears nonstop when we
travel, it is stuffed with everything that you would need or want! So, we hit a
Pharmacy for Hand cream and sleep aids. Somehow, they were not present in the
vest!
In the evening we walked back down again( Paul writes the
bullets for this and you can tell he is not amused by the walking bit! LOL) and
explored next to the river. It was lots of fun with kids all dressed up and
some had pumpkins full of candies/sweets form where?? Great people watching
place.
We stopped in to have a nibble
before heading back to the hotel. Paul had made me promise, no more walking! We
ordered various little plates to nibble but were floored by the enormous portion
of Patatas Bravas. A little boy passed by dressed as Mickey Mouse so I asked his
parents if I could take a picture. His sister was Minnie. Too cute, I told them
we were from Florida where Minnie and Mickey live, they liked that.
Fortunately for Paul we came upon
a Taxi rank quite quickly because I was done! They have to make a very circuitous
route around the pedestrian center but the drive got us up there in short order!
Im not sure how many steps we registered that day but it was a whole heap!
And so to bed! Buenos Noches!
